Planning retirement around the life you want

Bring your lifestyle, household and immigration questions into one practical plan.

Begin with an ordinary week

Before comparing homes, picture the weekly routine you want. Consider how often you would see friends, the activities you enjoy, the services you need nearby and how you prefer to get around. A location that works beautifully for a short holiday may feel different over a long stay. Write down your essential needs separately from the things that would simply be nice to have. That distinction makes property and neighbourhood conversations more productive.

Treat immigration as its own planning decision

Indonesia’s immigration authority currently lists the E33E second-home route for people aged 55 or over, with specific financial and documentary conditions. It is one route to investigate, not a conclusion that it is suitable for you. Check the official page and discuss your nationality, intended activities, length of stay and family circumstances with a qualified adviser. A property purchase or a lifestyle plan should not be treated as proof of visa eligibility.

Include the whole household

If a partner or other family members will move with you, list everyone’s needs at the start. Ask how each person’s immigration position will be assessed. Think about access to everyday services, mobility, transport and how often you expect to travel internationally. If you are researching for a parent, involve them in the priorities and explain clearly which decisions you are helping with.

Separate the budget into useful parts

Create distinct headings for housing, the move itself, regular living costs, professional services and a contingency. Use actual quotes as your plan develops rather than assuming that a holiday budget reflects year-round life. Before making long-term financial or tax decisions, obtain advice that considers both Indonesia and any continuing obligations in your current country of residence. The goal is a plan you understand and can adjust.

Send a relocation brief

A helpful first enquiry includes your approximate move date, nationality, household, preferred area and the support you need. You can begin before selecting a property or visa route. This article is a planning aid, not an eligibility assessment; official conditions can change and individual circumstances matter.
